EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Rep. Maxine Waters Addresses Protesters Displaying “Die Trump” Signs

On Monday, March 3, 2025, U.S. Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) spoke at a protest outside the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) headquarters, where attendees were seen holding signs “D.I.E. Trumpfer.” The event, organized by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), drew scrutiny after exclusive video footage from Loomer Unleashed captured the controversial signage.

As Rep. Waters arrived to deliver remarks, Loomer Unleashed confronted her with the question, “Why are you speaking at an event where rally attendees are holding a ‘Kill Trump’ sign?” The congresswoman declined to respond and proceeded to lead a group of protesters toward the HUD building in an attempt to confront HUD Director Scott Turner and hand-deliver a letter. Her actions appeared to resonate with the crowd’s evident frustration.

The NLIHC, which has a history of opposing President Donald Trump’s policies, organized Monday’s demonstration. Following Trump’s election victory on November 5, 2024, the group posted on X on November 6, stating, “NLIHC & our partners defeated many extreme policies during Pres. Trump’s first term & are prepared to do the same now. NLIHC will also look for areas of agreement w/ all policymakers to advance… racial & housing justice.”

Loomer Unleashed’s footage also revealed protesters wearing jackets emblazoned with the logo of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) union. The AFGE has a well-documented record of political activism, with its political action committee (PAC) contributing to prominent Democratic figures and causes, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records. Recipients include President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), and 2024 Senate candidates Bob Casey (D-PA), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV). The PAC has also supported Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS).

During the 2024 election cycle, the AFGE endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, stating, “We look forward to working with Vice President Harris and her running mate to repudiate the dark future outlined for our country in Project 2025 and continue delivering results for the American people.” The union emphasized that defeating Donald Trump and opposing initiatives like Project 2025—described as “anti-worker efforts”—remained its members’ top priority, warning that another Trump term could endanger “our union, our democracy, our rights, and our freedoms.”

Additional signage at the rally included references to “Wider Circle,” whose board includes Marty Durbin, nephew of Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). Sen. Durbin, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has faced criticism for his role in delaying the confirmation of Kash Patel as FBI Director.

The presence of inflammatory rhetoric at anti-Trump protests continues to raise questions for elected Democrats, as critics point to their participation in such events. Rep. Waters’ appearance at the HUD rally is likely to fuel ongoing debates about the tone and messaging embraced by party leaders.
